[FINISHED] ChessSet - CW - Now with tangible 3D

Final scene: ( Render time 0:10:09)

Wireframe of the scene:

Decided to try and print one of the parts, first did a miniature, than a ~50% scale.
I was worried about the overhangs, but the sphere on the top ended messed up instead… :frowning: :

The board was made form a simple profile and “bridge edge loop”:

The lines between the cells on the board are not texture, they are physically there.
Its just a small inset and than lifted up on Z:

Will be updating this thread as I go.
Pawn:

Bishop:

Couldn’t help myself, set around an hour with google to figure out lighting and texturing a bit.

Queen:

Top of her sphere is in quads ( no tris instructed in the video ):

Knight, spent too much time on him as it is…

Making the mane felt like modeling a Stegosaurus: :stuck_out_tongue:

Rook:

King:

Those are fantastic for a high-def set! I really like your “stego” Great work!

Thanks, I have a bit of experience with technical modeling (FreeCad), but not so much with organic, thus felt a bit tedious, but I guess practice…

Thank you.

Absolutely love this.

Your bishop in particular is absolutely perfect.

Love the gold trims on the board itself as well as the slightly razed squares. It makes a really noticeable difference.

Thank you,

I think I spent a bit too much time on him, just couldn’t stop.

The board gave me grief actually, couldn’t get it to look right with the regular render and texturing ( had a line on the side where the texture broke, looked like a seam between 2 textures an no amount of tweaking the numbers or the geometry helped ) ,
so had to sit around to figure how to UV unwrap and render in ‘cycles’.

@CyberWolf Nice work. I especially like the fact that you 3D printed some of it! I contemplated doing that as well.
