Faces are shaded flat

Hi,

I am using Blender 2.91. Why are the faces shaded flat (see bowling pins)? I enabled smooth shading, also tryied applying the subdivide surface modifier and rendered. It does not help no matter if Eevee or Cylcles.

Any suggestions? Thank’s a lot.

I suspect every pin is a double pin. Double geometry, as it almost seems both smooth and faceted. I think you need to investigate the mesh. As shade smooth usually works very well with this soft shape.

If you mean, I should have removed the doubles with “Merge by distance”, this is what I already did. However, I just created a new pin from the Bezier Curve and added it to the composition (the one standing in front on the right side) and it looks fine. Thanks for your help!

I also think your original pin, has a bad bezier curve. vertices near double.
And maybe inside faces.

But your second Pin is OK. Use that!
