This is a UV sphere rotated 90 deg and a flat surface on one end. The idea is to apply a texture and then put a clear cover over the top to add realism. From what I could tell apart from the cornea eyeballs are pretty much round. I thought it would have been good to elongate it a bit with the proportional editor.
