Extruding Not As Expected [Solved]

hi! my first post to the community forums.
as i was trying to follow along with Grant making the lighthouse. we got to the part where we were extruding the top face of the cylinder to make a indent. however, i found that my extruding was acting differently then Grants was in the lecture.
this is what Grants was doing:

but this is what mine was doing:

i was wondering why this was happening and how i could change it to extrude like Grant? thanks in advance!

Thanks to AvocadoFIre on the discord this has been solved!

Grant had “Bounding Box” selected in the “Transform Pivot Point” menu where as i had “3D Cursor” selected:

by changing this i got the exact same result from extrude scaling as Grant did in the video :).

Thank you to AvocadoFire on the Discord for helping me out with this!

Yes this is one solution. Normally so long as the pivot point is central You just constrain the Z axis by E, Shift Z.

In scaling the pivot point is very important. Median point is more normal to use and would have worked as well.
