Not sure what you mean by “cornered,” but if you’re extruding along normals with Alt + E–>Extrude Along Normals, then that should produce a result sort of like this:
cap

If you’re getting edges doing strange things when you extrude, you likely have duplicate topology. That’s usually fixed by pressing A to select all, then M–>By Distance. We’ll know more when you are able to get a screenshot up, as per your other post.

Hi .Thanks …Got past that problem … but found new one
I have a elongated Cube (pillar) mirrored to make longer pillar … Extruding inwards to make pillar narrower it leaves "plane " along the mirrored join… ?

Yup, no problem - you have interior faces. Because the topology of a pillar is so simple, you can just enter X-Ray Mode with Alt + Z, select the interior plane, and press Del to delete it.

For future reference:

  • When working on more complex models, there is an easier way to delete interior faces. In the Viewport top menu, click Select–>Select All By Trait–>Interior Faces, then press Del to delete the selection
  • You can also avoid the problem entirely by changing your modelling workflow. In Edit Mode, press A to select all, G to grab, and move the mesh away from the origin. With the Mirror Modifier (and its Clipping property) turned on, you can then extrude the mesh toward the origin again and clip the two halves together. It’s easier than it looks from this text. When you get to the low-poly dinosaur, pay close attention to how Grant adds thickness to his 2D starting point, because this is exactly what he does, and it avoids this interior topology.
