Exporting to multiple platforms

I am working in a college project for a game and as my luck would have it, most of the software being used is maya, and the one thing my art lead told me and one Ben has addressed is that before you export either as FBX or OBJ, the first thing is that you need to set appropriate origin point or it would skew elsewhere and also the scaling. That is one thing I think should be included because by default blender use the blender unit and in maya the default scaling is milimeters i believe so when you export the scaling would be wrong.
