Exporting for film use

Can anyone elaborate on exporting for use in animated film?

There are a lot of answers to that question. It all comes down to what it is being exported to. By default Blender exports in the following formats:

STL
For exporting the files for CAD software. Can also be for 3D printing.

FBX
For exporting objects with rigs and/or animation to be used in other 3D creation suites or game development.

DAE
To export objects with rigs and/or animation to be used in other 3D creation suites or game development (provided they support Collada).

ABC
To export a large amount of scene data. It can also be used to export an animated mesh.

The other export options seem to be program specific. There is also a ton of add-on scripts in order to export for other programs that Blender doesn’t offer default support to.

Thank you so much! That was a great explanation of all of those extensions and what they do.

There’s also the OBJ format if you are looking to save an Object file, so that you can bring your 3D model into another application like Anime Studio Pro. It definitely depends on what you are trying to do, you can also animate and render inside of blender so you wouldn’t have to go between platforms.
