Exploding models

Greetings all. I have a 3d model which I would like to explode in blender but it wont let me use the quick explode or physics facilities because the model is not a mesh, I have tried to convert it to a mesh but it wont allow it. The model is in 3ds format. Thanks.

Every model can be made fractured and then exploded. The Blender course chapter destruction, will learn you how to do that.

The Blender tool called “Cell fracture selected mesh objects”, will be used to break-up your single mesh object, into multiple fractured objects. To be manipulated with an forcefield, to mimic an explosion.

But, be patient, follow Blender 3D, chapter destruction.
