Editing the ledge: Grant's vs mine?

Hi there, around 8:50 in the video Grant shows us how to use alt loop to select the faces underneath the ledge and he then uses G to pull them downwards - making the ledge a bit thicker.

When i do this and pull it down, there are 2 different loops going around the ledge, and i am pulling the lower of the two. Did i do something wrong?

Grant’s version from the video:

You probably have double geometry!
Which happens to a lot of students, using the e extrude key.

Pressing e will immediately duplicate the selected vertices.
Even if you abort the action, press esc key.

Go into edit mode and select all by pressing a key
Then press m → "by distance.
Tweak the parameter until double vertices are merged.

Hi @FedPete - thanks
I’ve tried following your steps up to “merging by distance”

By “Tweak the parameter until double vertices are merged”, not sure, but do you mean adjusting the merge distance value in the bottom left window that appears? Nothing seems to happen to my model until around 0.08m where the top of the model seems a little distorted.

Yes that was what FedPete meant.

If it is going to solve double geometry it would have found it without much increase at all.

You may not have noticed it do anything, you only get a brief message along the bottom bar mid right.

Did you also check if it solved the problem, disregarding for a moment the distorted top from overdoing the merge distance?
