Displacement Map Error

I have learned that sometimes displacement maps don’t want to work regardless of the correct settings. I had the “bump and displacement” active, subsurface modifier active, scale applied, checked normals, cycle’s render viewport active, the vector set to “object” from the texture coordinate, and all textures (except color) to “non-color” data.

The first attempt had only the displacement map not working.

The second attempt had the entire texture of the rock remain on absolute black.

Finally the third attempt everything worked.

I also tested this on a default cube and plane with no subdivisions and it worked.

While it is important to check for all the right settings, sometimes all you need to do is reapply the textures. For anyone with this seemingly unique error (no solutions through google), I hope this helps. If you have any questions let me know, I’ll answer them as soon as I can.

Thanks for that report on your experience and persistence in getting it working. It often needs just playing about with to find some way that works.
