Demonic sculpture

Just a small figure
Looking for feedback, just like as always!

The image looks realistic. But I got the feeling that the ground floor is flat (no bump map, etc.).
As composition, I miss some context. Because it looks so small (due to camera focus) and sunny environment.

But, well executed project.

Thanks for the feedback!
This one is a perfect example what I am looking for.
I used normal map for the floor, however it’s not so useful in this situation as you can see. I just tried out using displacement modifier - but as I expected, it’s a pain to render it.
And by the way it’s meant to look small :stuck_out_tongue:
Also, for what kind of context are you looking for? I didn’t really understand that part.

With context I mean, how does it relates to what. It’s small but how small. It’s an imaginary figure. But is it plastic or is it real skin? And why stands it in a frame?

I get it now
I wanted to make it look like a small decoration piece which would be suitable for standing on a bookshelf for example. The frame was meant to be its base.
But now I realised that a room would have been much better for background than a garden… Next time I should be more careful.
Thanks for explaining it

Hi @Tiberris,

Nice job! I really like this as a model. You could fight the flatness of the ground by adding a particle system and adding few pieces of rock / sand as per your texture. Not sure if it will improve the depth experience but it’s really fast to try at least. If you have a proper hightmap of the ground texture you could try microdisplacement aka tessellation for depth.

I would also extend the ground plane so that the HDRI map would not get rendered (except for the reflections). Now I feel the plane is in the air.

All in all very good job!

Cheers, Jax

ps. How did you do the particles in the air? It really adds to the whole scene!

Thank you!

I will try these tricks out for sure. Microdisplacement is truly helpful sometimes, so it’s worth to try it.

By the way the HDRI is not visible on the image, in the background it’s a simple garden made by particle system. The brown color on the top is fence.

Those particles in the air were made in Photoshop. I saw it from Gleb (5:30): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYJCFP9CAMA

Thanks once more for advice!

IDK if someone already said this but i dont understand the atmosphere around it. shouldn’t it be on a shelf or coffee table or something? the figure itself looks really good but it messes with the realism to have something where it would have no reason to be

I found it out after FedPete’s comment
