Deformation Bones

I am doing [Blender Animation & Rigging: Bring Your Creations To Life] and stuck on Section 4 lecture no 33. The lecturer has the Layer on skeleton property. How to enable it?

I need to find a way to select my deformation bones to finish weight painting section.

A normal single bone can have its own graphical signature, arrow(s), etc. You can design them by your own (the’re just mesh objects).
So every visual item you see is a bone (or collection). And can be selected to work on it, like weight painting.

I don’t know if you have solved this or not, but there is a bone collection called DEF click the eye icon next to it and then you can see the def bones.
