My Cube Dude automatically linked to the armature, maybe because the dude mesh is all linked the automatic weighting caused a fair amount of deformations all over the place

Hmmm, strange, Check face normals.
Also check bone directions X,Y, Z
I checked both faces normals and bone directions and everything seems fine; I looked at the weights that blender calculated for the bones and found that some of them were linked to other part of the mesh, maybe because there weren’t many vertices to work on
