Copying and pasting water instead of redrawing

Just wanted to share a way to move the water tiles from Foreground to the new Water tilemap as an alternative to redrawing the water. I learned this from some forum post long ago:

  • Make sure Foreground is selected in the Tile Pallete
  • Use the Eyedropper tool to drag over the water you would like to move. This will copy the water into the Tile Pallete clipboard and also automatically select the Brush tool
  • Select the Water tilemap
  • The Brush tool should still be selected and will have the copied tiles. Click directly over the water that is still in the Foreground, but you will now be adding it to Water.
  • Go back to the Foreground tilemap and select the Erase tool. The Erase tool brush should still be in the shape of what you copied
  • Click directly over the water. This will remove it from the Foreground and it should still be in the Water.
  • Hide the Foreground tilemap to confirm your water is now in the Water tilemap
  • Show the Foreground tilemap and likewise hide the Water tilemap to confirm the water is no longer in the Foreground
  • Re-add any tiles to the Foreground that were erased, and remove anything added to Water that is not water

It may be the case that you prefer redrawing the water, which is quite alright. If you happen to have quite a lot of water tiles you would like to preserve, you will likely appreciate this approach.
