Convex Hull command makes strange shape

Edit: Really embarrassing! I had a stray single vertex in my model, that the Convex Hull operator saw. A single vertex is invisible in edge and face (and Object) mode. It is only visible in Edit - Vertex mode. So I got fooled by not seeing it.

I have no idea why the vertex got there in the first place, without an egde or face leading to it.

Anyway, the moral is to check for stray vertices, when something is not working as expected!

When I have my model in Edit mode, with all faces selected, and do the Convex Hull command, I get a strange point in my mesh. The original mesh is totally symmetrical, so I do not understand why the Convex Hull command does this.
See the picture with the original at right, and convex hull at left.

I have tried to play with the Convex Hull parameters down in the left hand corner, just after performing the command, but I am not able to get rid of this strange point that the command makes.

Anyone have some suggestions to what I do wrong?
