Controller and possession in Unreal 5.1

Hi,

This is my first post in this nice community. I come from the unity world moving slowly to Unreal which seems amazing.

I am following some tutorials on Gamedev.tv and it seems like the course are a bit outdated for Unreal 5.1.

It seems so easy to do it in Unreal 4 but I really need to use Unreal 5.1 for several reasons. Is there a link to a video tutorial to learn how to just assign a pawn to a controller and have it worked (possesed) in Unreal 5.1. It seems like this can be done it 2 or 3 easy steps in Unreal 4.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m not 100% sure what you’re asking. To make things easier, are you saying this is shown in 5.0 but doesn’t work in 5.1? If you are please mention the video and timestamp.

Hi and thanks for the quick reply.

My main problem was the fact that in Unreal 4. You can spawn a new moving character in a fewer steps meaning you don’t have to recreate the inputs to make it work. I was expecting the spawn moving by itself after possessing the spawn but going deeper within the course I realized that the inputs have to be created manually.

I also had a problem because the spawn actor camera was lying within the floor when hitting play so all I was seeing is pitch black while playing but after a while, I figured it out.

It is a little harder to follow the tutorials that were made using Unreal 4 but the tutorials are great and well done. So all is fine now.

Thanks again for the help!
