Confused on why forward movement is on the X and horizontal movement is on the Y


This is weird to me because the marines y orientation is forward

Forward in world-space for Unreal Engine is X+, you can see this in action by looking at the compass on the bottom-left corner of the viewport, best shown below:

The Marine’s model is actually setup incorrectly to have Y+ as the forward axis, which is why you get what you’re seeing and also why the model has been rotated to match the X+ axis for the proper forward.
