Concept "Sketch" and scene

So I paused the video on the challenge and started to do my “sketch” thinking that it was to do the entire of the assets, so that what I did and then when I returned to the video a few hours later I saw that it was a simple drawing rather than make assets. Guess I jumped a few steps forward in just the start of the section because of a misunderstood :stuck_out_tongue:

In any case, instead of a lamp jumping I’m gonna do another idea, I’m gonna make “lil’ guy” punch the lamp, that’s my concept that I have in mind.

So… how is my “sketch” so far?

P.S: I was experimenting a bit and I put cloth physics to the cloth, of course when I play the animation the fps tanks, is this gonna affect to the final render? knowing that rendering is just taking every frame and make them into a video I think the contrary but I prefere to hear the experts about that.

Several things. The section is about animating the lamp. Unless you have previous experience it is best to stick top the course lamp style and motions.
Cloth is not covered at all by the course. Assuming you just want the cloth draped over the table and a static non moving cloth shape mesh, it is best to run the animation of the cloth physics to the final position and fix it there. As a shaped mesh.

Students vary, some can go their own way others struggle following the animation section step by step. You will know your own abilities best, and if happy to deal with issues not covered in the course section go for it!

I’ll try my best to do my idea with what I can learn from the course if not I’ll stick with the lamp animation only, I used to do rigging the first time I touched blender before joining the course and successfully giving an armature to a deer.

About the cloth, to be honest I wanted to give in the final render that feel of the cloth hanging, if my idea doesn’t work I’ll stick with the static one.

Thanks for the tips!, they are greatly appreciated and I know this is gonna be the longest section of the course of the trials and errors I’m gonna do to see if I can make my idea real or not. Whatever happens I’m gonna be showing the renders to see if I manage to rig successfully the guy or if I stick with a lamp jumping.

When animating physics, it takes time. Rendering the images takes time, rendering the complete video takes more time. But in the end, the video will play smoothly!

  • Physics animation can be baked, it speeds up the render process because the animation is calculated once but re-used (baking) many times.

For your table cloth simulation, there is another option, switch over to sculpting the table cloth, using the cloth brush. Full controll other the coth shape. But again, you need knowlegde, not yet discussed.

You can do whatever you want of course. But animating the lamp in a unique way according to how they teach it in the course is what I would recommend. You have plenty of time and opportunities to rig and animate humanoids in later stages. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t find other resources to improve your rigging or design. But I think it’s better to just stick to the lamp for now. Curious to see what you come up with!
