Codename: "Mass Guardians", shoot 'em up in a high fantasy setting

Hey everyone!

My name is Alexey and I’m looking for a team to work on this hobby project.

At first, a bit info about myself:

  • programmer
  • 10+ years of web-development (and counting)
  • 0.5 year learning game dev and especially Unreal Engine 4
  • have not so much time for this project (roughly 2h/day)
  • English is not my native language, so I’m sorry for mistakes…
  • Related to the previous item: text communications preferred

About the project:

  • Hobby project, mostly for self-learning
  • Unreal Engine 4
  • Shoot 'em up game, similar to Crimsonland (top-down view, fast-paced gameplay, tons of enemies from all directions, different weapons, power ups and so on)
  • High fantasy theme with magic
  • Multiple play styles: melee, ranged, mage
  • RPG elements: leveling, learning skills
  • Single-player
  • [to discuss] Party/group gameplay when the player should control multiple characters at once (damage dealer, tank, healer roles and so on)
  • [optional] Cross-platform release: all PCs – Windows, macOS, Linux; mobile platforms – iOS, Android.

About who’s needed:

  • Everyone interested! (mostly wanted: programmers, 3D modellers)
  • Can work without guides from myself (I’m not a manager at all)
  • Can discuss things but at the same time can agree with other’s opinion

More details about the project:

I have a small video from the very first days where I’ve tried to make a group controls (this become an “optional” feature right now, because I’m not sure it’s suitable for a fast-paced gameplay).

Also I have The Plan: https://www.mindmeister.com/908612764/shoot-em-up, in it’s current state

The repository: https://gitlab.com/MassGuardians/MassGuardians if you’re interested in the code and progress (just look at the commits history).

Welcome!

Contacts:

p.s. Also would be glad just to discuss, if you’re interested

Just an update on the current state:

Still looking for anyone interested to participate!
Most wanted: gameplay programmers, visuals programmers, modellers/artists.

Took a 2 weeks vacation to work full time on this project, yet the first week was not very productive because of personal things, I have managed to implement a basic leveling system with scaling some parameters and, huh, literally scaling the mobs :joy:

p.s. Looking for someone who can do characters/mobs 3D models (rigged and animated)! Also looking for someone who can help with visuals in general. I’m thinking about cel-shading cartoon style visuals, but I don’t really know how to make it looks good.

A long time have passed, the project is still alive.
Renamed to Knightmare Lands, here is a couple of teasers:

And the game have it’s own Steam page, so you can add it to wishlist!
