Clothing or Retopo First?

So obviously in the anime character course we do the clothing after the retopo, which helps ensure we have a good topology even for the clothing. (Will share my result for clothing and hair Saturday hopefully)

Looking through the new character course which will be my next course (for a 2nd time, just wanna do it with the updates, and FINISH the thing) it looks like we do the sculpt, then clothing, then retopo, then detailed sculpting.

I also notice he skips feet in the course, but no problems since he does hands and the method for making toes and fingers are similar, will just use lots of reference for my feetsies on my characters

Is that the normal way to go? Or would it be better to wait until after doing retopo over the body to do the clothing?

I should just follow the course method at least the first time through.

I don’t recall there being any retopology process in the anime character course.
No matter the method used, each model is unique and each artist workflow is unique, there’s no “normal”.

As someone who avoids sculpting at all costs, I’d say the ends justify the means. If it works, it works.
