Chess Board Preview

I decided to make a neon/glowy theme for my chessboard and I have a question about the alpha setting in the materials. Does alpha not affect transparency in Blender? When I was moving the slider, all it did was turn my texture black instead of make it transparent. Is there a setting somewhere that I have to enable for that to work? Or is there a different way to make transparency? I’d rather try to learn this now as it will affect how I design this further.

I believe that you have to change the Blend Mode to something other than opaque to get transparency to work in Eevee.

Material properties, Viewport Display, Settings, Blend mode dropdown, Change to alpha hashed, (or other alpha options).

Now playing with the alpha slider at the bottom of the principled bsdf affects transparency
