Sorry if this was already brought up before … In the video it’s mentioned that you can’t select all edge rings and then do a checkered deselect, since it seems to only do a checkered deselect on the originally selected edge loop?
You can do it the other way around, though:
- select an edge ring
- checkered deselect (and in the operator panel, tweak however you like)

then go to
Select > Edge Loops > Edge Loopswhich will then just select those loops for the edges that remained selected after checkered deselect
