My character just goes through the walls, it stops for a very little time (way less than in the video) when the collision happens. What is the problem?
Have you tried using Discrete and Continuous collision detection? Any difference between them? (Rigidbody on Player property)
Yes, it still didn’t work, but when I used a cube like in the video it worked as it should. But can’t seem to make it work with any other than simple shapes.

Have you already tried to slow the player down? Maybe then, more complex shapes will also work.
