Changing pivot of an object to snap differently

Hi, thank you for the wonderful lecture.
You told objects are snapping to their origin. I tried changing the pivot of the object to make it snap differently but that does not work. can this be only done from within 3d software where the object was created?

You can temporarily move it by holding alt and middle mouse button. Though I don’t think that works for vertex snapping.

So you would need to do that with the original model in a 3D modelling program. I believe you can also change it when you import the mesh.
