Cavity baking issue

Good morning,

I am having issues with my cavity bake not looking the same as the course cavity bake. I have followed the instructions, and have redone them a couple of times to make sure I’m not making a mistake.

The one thing I’ve noticed that is is different is that the selected items are not highlighted in Grants 3D Viewport, like it does in mine. Could that be causing the issue?

So I don’t know what I did other than move forward with the class, and then came back and tried baking the cavity again with all of the same parameters… and this time it worked. Ergh. Wish I knew what changed so I could give an answer to the issue.

Oh I think I see the difference! The Extrusion just above the Max Ray Distance is different. In the first one, it is set to 0, which was the problem one. In the second one, which is the working one, the Extrusion is set to 0.2, which matches the Max Ray Distance. That may be the solution. :slight_smile:

Well sorted out in the end. Checking other baking issues here in the ask section would probably have found you thar answer. Extrusion makes it all work far more than Ray distance seems to. In fact many find they can use some extrusion distance and zero ray distance. All depends a bit on the particular model and then HP/LP fit.
