I started making this when I had some time on saturday for the week 33 castle collab. But then I just got stuck and didn’t have any motivation to continue. But then I thought that I would post it anyways. I am very dissatisfied with how the mountains look, and I probably should have added some more assets. But I guess this sort of scene just isn’t my thing. Anyways, a lot of lessons learned and on to other things.
This is amazing! I love the level of detail in your masonry.
Thanks! But actually used the wall factory addon that @NP5 mentioned. You can create some really cool walls and structures with it by combining it with the simple deform modifier (bend 365 degrees on Z axis for a circular wall). Every brick is a cube, which gives a nice effect. But a bit limiting when it comes to UV mapping and texturing.
No worries about using the addon’s, there are here for a purpose!
Looking mighty good with the ivy as well (did you use the ivy creator addon too?)
Very well done!
Should have entered it! It is a good abandoned old castle scene. Nice bats!
Looks great to me, the castle at least anyway, the mountains as you mentioned could do with some more work, but it’s still a great scene overall.
I utilized three addons a lot in this project. The A.N.T landscapes, the wall factory, and yes, an ivy generator. But I downloaded another ivy gen than the one that comes with blender. Easier and faster to use. I don’t mind using addons, much faster workflow, but feels a little lame to me taking credit for details I didn’t actually spend a lot of time modeling.
You’re the second person saying that they are bats. They were supposed to be dragons in the distance. But as long as they look nice, I don’t mind! Yeah, I should’ve entered with what I had at the time. But I had so many plans for this scene at first, then it was just information overload and I lost motivation. Need to have some more realistic expectations of myself…
The displacement didn’t work as I wanted it to and they just ended up looking a bit flat and rounded. I don’t have a lot of experience creating environments. It’s definetly something I need to learn more about.
Thanks all for feedback and encouragement!
