Can't Select Ring

For some reason, I can’t Alt+Left Click to select an edge loop (ring). What am I doing wrong? Is it my compact keyboard or something? How can I solve this issue? I’m on Windows 10 PC, latest version of Blender, and have an onn compact wireless keyboard and logitech M325S mouse

Are you emulating the 3 button mouse?

If so double click instead of Alt Left Click.

You may not need to be emulating 3bm , just check the preferences as it is a standard cause, but it might be set up that way from some other time, or set up.
