Can't reposition TMPro Text box

Hi. I’m having problems with my tmpro text box. I double click it in the hierarchy and while it will zoom in to the text box in my scene view and I can see it, there are no arrows to indicate that I can move it, and clicking to try and move it does nothing. I’m using unity 2021.2.2f1. Thanks.

Edit: It seems to be working now. Originally I found I could do it fine when I turned the previsualization canvas off, but now I turned it back on again so I can still select the text box. I don’t understand what’s going on.

Hi,

Are the Gizmos enabled in the scene window?

Hello, I am having the same problem, there is no way to move or drag or select the text box. I have tried turning off the previsualization canvas as well but it is not working.

Hi,

Welcome to our community!

Which version of Unity do you use? And which text box do you mean? The TMP box in the scene? Could you please share screenshots of what you see in Unity?

Hello, thank you for the reply. I was using version 2022.1.0b8, however I started the entire project over with 2020.3.29f1. I know that the course is using 2021, but when I installed Unity Hub, there was no option for that version, it was either the 2020 version or the 2022 beta version. Is there a way that I can get 2021 somehow? After starting the project over in 2020, the original problem has been resolved.

I usually download Unity from the download archive if I cannot find the version I want to download in UnityHub.

For the Quiz Master game, feel free to use Unity 2020 because we do not use any new features in that project. For the next version, try to install a stable version of 2021 or 2022 (if available) but not an alpha or beta version.

Can you show the full screen? I think you might be in the game window instead of the scene window.
Sometimes when I have a problem like what you’re describing, it is because I’m mistakenly looking at the game window instead of the scene window.

I’m not sure if this is related, but I’ll add it just in case:

I’m working on this project right now, too, and I’ve learned something very important. When I close and re-open my game, everything looks really weird and spaced out for no reason. If I click the ‘game’ window and then back to the scene window, everything seems to straighten out like it was before I closed it last.

Open, it looks all weird:

Switch to ‘Game’ view:

Back to ‘Scene’ view:

It’s like a reset. I hope this helps.

Thank you both for your replies, I really appreciate it. I will look into the Unity Download Archive and whether I am accidentally looking in the game window… anything is possible!

One problem that could be occurring is that you have the wrong tool selected(which is above the Hierarchy). You may have the hand tool selected when you need the move tool selected.

Unity can be hard to learn. It really drives me nuts sometimes, but I still love it.

Keep practicing!
