Can't Drag and Drop Reference png Image Into Blender(v3.6.3) Scene

Hi Folks,

I’m working through the Complete Blender Creator 3 course and I’m at the Low-Poly Dinosaur section. Grant was able to drag in his png reference image from a folder and into Blender. I’m unable to do that. When I drag the image over, nothing happens besides the cursor changing to a circle with a line through it.

I was on Blender v3.6.3 and just updated to v3.6.4 and I still can’t drag and drop a png image in. I had Blender v2.9 still on my computer so I loaded that up and I was able to drag in the image there. Grant was on v3.2.0 in his course.

Sorry for the silly question! I’m able to add a reference image by just adding it inside Blender but the drag and drop way seems so much faster and simpler. Has anyone had any problems dragging and dropping reference images into Blender? Any ideas if a setting is flipped off?

I do not know of any setting to turn it on and off. It also seems an odd thing to have deliberately stopped from working in newer versions.

In fact it does still work I found this new ish video showing how to do it. In 3.6

Just fixed it.

I had ‘run as administrator’ set to ON for blender.exe because I needed that setting to use a radeon render plugin. That was the only thing I could think of that I changed so I went and flipped it back off and now I can drag images into my Blender scene. I guess there was some weird permission issue between dragging an image from my file explorer into Blender because of that.
