Building The Brooklyn Bridge

Update Time!

Today is my favorite update. For the first time the bridge is assembled and the chains are all “attached.” This part was tedious and took me a long time. I had to make sure every link was the perfect length before duplicating it all. I had to rearrange the long chain which I made with the path tool. I influenced the axis points to get it to arch like the real bridge. I never made this bridge to scale but I am still happy with the way it looks. I put so much sweat and mouse click to gets this bridge to look just like the real thing.

I added a rusted like texture to the bridge. It really makes the bridge come alive.

I am having a hard time assembling everything the way I wanted. It has now become a tedious job. I’m sure by doing the blender course I will learn practices that will have helped me prevent this situation. I could have duplicated linked or set up a material before copying. Now I know for future projects to be more mindful. This bridge has been one crazy journey and I have learned so much.

That is all I have today. This project is almost complete. So far the frame rate is really bad. I don’t know if adding water will even look good. But I’m going to give it a shot. From there I will start section 2 of the Blender Environmental Course.

Awesome man! You really should try the water!

Well about copy the material to multiple objects you can!
Make one object just the way you like it and then you can just copy to the others.
Select every object you want to change and lastly the one you have the material set up. Ctrl+L > Materials… Bam!
All objects have the same material now

I will definitely try the water! Also with the material tip! Thank you! I will try it out! I appreciate it!

Try water, Kevin. It isn´t so difficult. And I would add some fog.

You could be really proud of yourself!!! Everything looks great!

Ok I’ll definitely try water! Fog we’ll see!

Water is just plug a noise to displacement and adjust scale

Fog is just plug a Volume Scatter to Volume of the World… Set the density pretty low like 0.01
(add some lights…)

Guys this is the end! I am finished with The Brooklyn Bridge. Is there more left to do? Always. I have done everything I set out to do when starting this project. There is more left for me to do so I am putting an end to this project. I wanted to put realistic water but my computer was not allowing me to do it at lets say in a “friendly manner.” It also didn’t look pretty. I opted to do it the way Mike did in the Blender environment course. I am going to continue on with the section and am going to start a new project. I am so grateful for all the feedback and all the support. You guys are the best!

Check out the bridge!

I’m am so happy with how the bridge turned out. I can’t believe I made it. Just a month ago I didn’t even know how to duplicate objects and build anything and know I feel super confident with the early stages of Blender. I have learned so much and can’t wait to create more. I will constantly push my skills to the test and do big projects like this. Stay tuned for my next big project!

This has been a great journey man!
Congrats!

What you said here: “Is there more left to do? Always. I have done everything I set out to do when starting this project.”

This is very important otherwise you’ll never stop…

About the water I don’t see where the water would be taxing though… It would be just a plane with a material, no subdivisions, no fluid simulations.

Take it from someone who used to drive across the Brooklyn Bridge to get to work every day, you did a phenomenal job.

Thank you capa! I was trying to make realistic water and just went with a plane that had blue material on it.

I appreciate everything!
