Bowling Pin & Spin/Rotational Extrusion

Hello,

This is my attempt at the bowling pin and spin (rotational extrusion) exercise. I’ll be honest I hate curve tools in most packages, I feel they’re really awkward to use. My first attempt I lost as I was wanting to be in line with the reference, then on trying again found the top part of the pin wasn’t set to global, so it was moving on the axis I wasn’t using.

I’m also struggled to figure out the scale, I originally thought to set the reference to 3.8 Blender units, which was 10x the size it should of been which would be usable in view but upon watching the lesson learned it should of been 1.9 BUs.

Either way, behold:

This is a really cool tool, if the object/asset in question is symmetrical. My question is, if you use curves to outline a sword or a more flat object/uniquely shaped one, would extruding from those edges be enough? Be interested to know if someone has done something more complex and how they accomplished it.
