So I chose to go with a pin that had 32. Mostly due to my PC being fairly powerful and I really wanted to have a nice smooth, higher poly bowling pin with a real nice shine to it.

Blender is fast, so the extra vertex amount in your pin does not add much to the calculation time.
It is better to have a low-poly version and the subdivision modifier activated.
Low poly models are better maintainable.
For a smooth pin, only 5 nodes are needed. Let Blender do the job for you.
But, yes nice pin model. Good achievement.
