As far as I can tell the animation physics in Blender 2.80 Release Candidate works great. So I plan on re-creating the Ball hitting the Pins from back in 2.79 days later tonight or tomorrow. However, there is a really cool FREE add-on in Blender 2.80 that I think is worth sharing.
It is called Cell Fracture, you can turn it on in preferences. Once you have it on and ready, to use it you stay in Object Mode and in the Object >> Quick Effects >> Cell Fracture
