It depends on how the model is used. In animation, you don’t see the ball in clear detail. So then why add more geometry. The difference is nearly not visible and doesn’t add much to the realism. Which would be a sharper rim (use reference images).

Very marginally better. Both look fine and both are ok. Unless you are going to animate ants walking over it, it may not be worth the trouble!
