I had a weird shading artifact at the notch, and after some trial & error and research, I figured out that all I had to do was add an Edge split modifier.
Did auto smooth not sort it out?
Higher poly it does become more of a problem needing better topology really. But it is a beginner level course and that is much more involved to do.
I’m honestly not even sure how to do auto-smooth, and I’m starting to think that maybe I’d be better off starting over and going for low-poly.
I might try a high-poly board game when I’m more experienced, but at this point I have heard from yourself and several friends that there’s an issue with topology, and since I’m not even fully sure what that means, maybe I’m in a bit over my head at my current level of experience.
Just try Auto smooth, Object data properties tab, (green Triangle) Normals dropdown. Tick the box. Play with the slider if needed.
Edge split might be doing it, not one I ever tend to use.
Or watch this, ex student here.
Didn’t work like I thought it would, so at this point I’m just going to start over.
No harm in reviewing what I’ve already learned while preventing myself from running into some fairly advanced problems, and now I have something I’d like to work on once I’m more experienced.
