Bone rotation constraints not overruled by Auto IK

I thought he said that the rotation constraints we put on the bones didn’t make a difference for Auto IK but mine definitely does. I had to turn off my bone rotation constraints to get it work but I didn’t see him do that anywhere in the video. What am I misunderstanding?
The only difference in these are the check boxes which obviously changed the lamp.

Did you solve this, somehow we seemed to have missed it.

I just moved on. I feel like this is a pretty confusing section. I want to understand whys not just what to do.
