Bone Custom Object Not Displaying

Added a cone to the scene after putting the cursor to the world origin

Then selected the armature and went to Pose Mode, selected Lamp Shade Extension bone and under the viewport display on the Bone tab added Custom Object Cone Bone Mesh (cone).

Nothing changes, did I miss something?

What did you expect what should happen?

As per the lesson and and what I could find through Google-Fu it was supposed to change the bone in Pose and Edit modes to reflect the shape added to the world origin, essentially make the bone more representative of what kind of movement it would be doing. Then from there I would be able to adjust the object in edit mode to further customize the bone. Some screen caps from the lesson video:

Something is funky with my file, On a new file the bone skinning works just fine, going to create a new lamp model and try that.

Yes, could be a Blender hick-up.
Especially in the beginning, when you try things out.
You can create accidentally, strange unlogical Blender constructs.
