For a short moment, i was hoping, the edit-mode-cut would create a softer surface, but… no, unfortunately.
I even tried to apply a subdivision modifier on the cutting cylinder before doing the cut, but after cutting, the sharp edges were back.
Really interested in how this can be solved…

That is why the course is low poly! Subdiv needs quads and Booleans are messy with topology. Having seen the end result you seem to get something working well!
