Why wait so long? You can go and add colors right away, it’s veeery simple. I think they should have shown this in tutorial.
And try basics of rendering, it’s real simple too:
Can’t wait to see that cake rendered in colors, just go and try it, should take just a few minutes.
(And mind that light too, move it just as camera)

I see at least 9 separate models making up your cake with 3 of those duplicated multiple times. I recommend waiting til you get to the Game Asset Pack Section to start working on coloring it in. In that section you will learn some tips and tricks for simplifying the process and in the Human Head Section you will learn how to make it look truly real.
