I really don’t like bezier curves. 
I mentally can’t grasp these little things.
I am not even sure it is at the correct dimensions.
But here is what I came up with for the lamp base.

I think most people have troubles with bezier curves. But it has it’s charm.
Always start at 0,0,0 Don’t use the 3D view, but always, front, top left etc.
I always forgot how to rotate the curve. Practice, is the key here. Don’t give up!

Thanks for the comments FedPete. I did get a better result after trying a few times but I have a hard time visualizing what needs to be done with curves. That is probably a quirk of me.
