Be the first to post for 'Terminal Hacker Game Design'!

I think the words are appropriate for their difficulty. Though could you explain the theme names? I’ve never heard of a Station Network nor a Satellite Network. Do you think players will be able to understand them and guess the words associated with them?

My themes:
Easy - Your current location:

  • Table
  • Chair
  • Computer
  • Mouse
  • Room

Medium - Urban Dictionary (random entries from UD):

  • Posse
  • Australian
  • Moobs
  • Whipped
  • Random

Difficult - Oxford English Dictionary (tough random entries from OED):

  • Colossal
  • Grapiness
  • Suede
  • Fingerful
  • Dictionary

for the medium and difficult themes there will also be tips after a certain amount of time and/or they will be buyable for a deduction in points.

Hello, all! I posted my car scene not too long ago, with my trailers and cars, and now I’m on the next project.

I considered that my original and first inspiration and target audience for games would be my children, so they have inspired my themes for the Terminal Hacker.

Easy Level
Disney Princesses
Anna, Belle, Ariel, Moana, Merida

Medium Level
Favorite Meals
Potatoes, Chicken, Macaroni, Ice Cream, Sandwich

Difficult Level
Star Wars
Phasma, Dagobah, Organa, Wookie, Rebellion

I think these words would provide them with a bit of a challenge.

BTW - I was reviewing the themes other people have chosen so far, and my favorite so far is from the movie War Games. One of my favorite movies from when I was a kid.

Great choice!

I went with a Shadowrun theme for my game, Shadowrun was a popular tabletop roleplaying game in the late 80’s (still around today as well) and it features hackers called Deckers so when I think hacking that’s where I go. Made the last one an extra challenge using words from the Lore of Shadowrun that only someone experienced with it’s setting would recognize.

No need to make a new topic for such a few words. I add up to this one.

I’m going with the theme: investigation about a conspiracy.
I have some idea in the back of my head to add some thrive to the mini game. Let’s see if it lead me somewhere interresing.

  1. Police Station (easy)
    law
    gun
    star
    thief
    cuffs

  2. Military Center (medium)
    missile
    weapons
    warfare
    soldiers
    airships

  3. CIA servers (hard)
    earthlings
    watergate
    conspiracies
    governments
    counterterrorism

Still subject to changes as I come up with better ideas.

I have to say, I tend to overthink such things as I tend to make things too hard.
To then balance words out between 3 difficulty modes is definitely not easy, as even really long words can become easier to see than shorter words with many more valid word combinations. Also do I use American spelling or British spelling. I started out very creative and then went back to actual words. Even though I think code could provide alot of interesting ideas.

Either way I stopped at these for now:
Simple users:

  • 12345
  • word
  • abcde
  • qwerty
  • secret

Average user:

  • birthday
  • username
  • leetspeak
  • address
  • password

Advanced:

  • anniversary
  • colourcoded
  • cryptography
  • randomization
  • multiplication

Hi everyone,

Thanks for sharing your lists! Here are the ones I came up with along with my theme:

I used to work IT in schools, so that’s why I picked the school theme.
