Base + Pawn & File Strategy

So here we are, here is my free floating anti-grav pawn

For the file-strategy (single file/multiples/etc) I decided to take the experiment to make seperate files, but not appending, but linking the parts together.
Advantage: If I change something in the base (like the LED-lighting beneath the floating disk, that will come later), all others get updated automatically.
Disadvantage: See advantage  All properties of the base parts are disabled in the other file with the message “can’t change properties of linked objects” (which is ofc very logical - so, for now I go with linking the parts together).
One reason for this is the “free floating” concept I use for my figures - so I have no need in extruding/manipulating the base for each figure. it stays 100% identical – the “body” is always one or more entirely new objects as they are all anti-grav and do not touch each other. So this saves me lots of work by keeping really only one physical copy of the base and other parts. Great reuse potential here.

Looks a nice smooth shape, I hope your anti gravity has controls on it that can be matched to whatever planet or moon you are using the set on!

Nice work so far!Looks like you are gonna have a fun time playing with it as you move a piece you might accidentally rip its head off, literally. :wink:Have fun dude!

Yes I want to animate at least one of those figures in a little video afterwards, where the pieces move at different speed, lean forward, head first, then the body and the disk + base follows shortly behind… hard to express for me in english but i have a clear picture in mind, how i want that animation to look.

will try a bit shader programming then too (energy beams and dust when the figure stops) - I did many shaders already, but none in blender - curious, how it will go.

Awesome plan.Looks like you know exactly what you want to do and how. Looking forward to seeing your plan in action. :+1:
