Barrel Notch

I’m trying to create the notch on the barrel using the bevel, but when I use the bevel modifier the back does not go down

• Check the scale of the barrel, should be one, If not Apply the scale (Ctrl a).
• Check for duplicate geometry. Do a merge by distance in edit mode.

This can be done by Blender itself, via the ‘Window’ menu bar top left-hand side.
On that menu dropdown is ‘save screenshot’.

Standard issue of double geometry so frequently first encountered by students on this very part. Asked in this section many times.

Searching the ask section can get you quicker answers.

Edit mode, press A to select all, then M, for merge, choose by distance.

Odds are that will sort it out.
