Baked Rock Orc (Fun with Normal Map bakes)

If you came here to see an inebriated orc listening to Led Zeppelin, you will be doubly disappointed.

Took forever to get to this point; about to apply the symmetry modifier for the final bake… Just wanted to show off some effects when playing with the Normal Map Node’s Strength value using the bodybuilder orc’s baked normal map:

Intuition was that there was no way pushing the Strength value above 1 could look good… my intuition was wrong. Definitely has application for adding a stylized effect.

No cavity map yet… I still need to do the other orc.

Great low poly and as we can see details are still visible in the normal maps.

Managed to bake the other orc’s normal map… also has a ~1.2k Vert base mesh:


… slightly better retopology, but still lots I can learn and improve upon.

Rigging may be a disaster… will see.
