I had the idea of creating a middle pathway which has rock beds on both sides.
Here is how I did it:
- I did a loop cut (CTRL + R) on the topside of my “road” mesh / (added 2 loops)
- I selected the two faces on the side and inset (I) them a little
- extruded (E) them on the Z axis
- and then done the stuff shown in the lecture
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like what I had hoped for at the start.
I don’t know of it is possible to apply different modifiers on just faces. They, of course, inherit the modifiers of the parent object, but this can result in wonky looking textures.
I guess the solution to this is just to create another mesh (a plane in my case) and do the modifiers on that. Here is what I was roughly aiming for:
I noticed other artifacts / distortions at the edges of my - now new - “road” model, so I would have to redo the UV unwrapping on the newly created faces, but I’m not going to bother with that right now.
