Anybody notice how Michael's lamp stem doesn't move?

When I select auto IK and move the rig about the stem (the little bit protruding from the base which has the first bone attached to it) rotates through the base on the X/Y plane whereas in Michael’s video it only seems to rotate on the Z plane. Anybody have any idea why this could be different for me? My base currently isn’t connected to the rig as I don’t recall that being something that Michael had done.

Never mind, next episode reminded me about transform locks. There was no bone constraint applied which is what confused me, I hadn’t locked rotation on X and Z values (it was actually able to rotate on the Y value despite it looking like it should be Z, on the bone “up” is relative to Y or at least that’s how it worked out for me).
