Animated Blob Man

Finally got to finish my Blob Man modeling + animation.

While modeling it, I wanted to add an extra. And the first thing that came to mind was a belly! I was afraid I cannot animate it properly but it was quite easy actually. I also added a nod of the head every time Blob Man does a step for similar “gravitational reasons”.

To get some more practice with texturing, I looked up a bavarian lederhosen outfit (front and back) and distorted it so it looks a bit like a comic. For the shoes I found a photo licensed CC BY-NC-SA @ Museum Wolmirstedt, Germany. The beer drinking scene used for the screen is from pexels.com and free to use. I sped up a small section to make it more animate (the original is “quite slow” and showed almost no movement, especially with the turntable camera move around Blob Man).

Rendering was done in Cycles with 1024 samples + denoising. That allowed for the screen content to light the floor in front of Blob Man. For that to work, I used the animated texture as input of the principled BSDF’s emission color, the base color is a simple gray. I had to crank up the emission strength to 50 to get the effect seen in the video.

Hope you like it!

Very nicely done and going that little bit further too makes it stand out.

Propably 32/64 samples + denoising is enough.
1024 samples was used for the pre denoising era.
