I’ve always wanted to learn to create an old school turn based jrpg with a class/job system, like Final Fantasy V, Bravely Default or Octopath Traveler. I’ve always loved these types of RPGs and I wish there were more of them being made, and I’d bet a lot of indie devs would be stoked to learn to make them.
Ideas for the course to possibly include:
.) A job/class system that lets you mix skills/traits from different jobs
.) A turn based side view combat system
.) Managing a party of multiple characters
.) A nested menu system to make it easy to select items and skills
.) Triggering animations in combat to match the selected skill (ex. lightning)
.) Gear changes being visually reflected on characters
.) Basic AI for enemy monsters
.) Using the tile map editor to make villages/dungeons/castles.
.) Using the 2d lighting system to add some flair to the maps
.) Using serialized objects and UI customization to make it easy to add/edit items and skills
