Alternatives to Beveling

Lower poly, but pretty much the same shape, maybe even better. 2 subdivisions.

Subdivision is just higher poly, by maths. Fine if you are choosing to do a non low poly chess set.

Ohh yes of course. Stupid me :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I was simply thinking, fewer lines on the screen, lower poly. Haha.

Is the first screenshot showing all of the underlying geometry? I don’t understand what’s supporting that lower bulge outer rim.

It was a while ago I did this, but I believe the first screenshot shows the piece after I applied a subdivision surface modifier and then deleted a lot of the edge rings and edge loops.

I myself thought that it was lower poly at the time, but in fact it is higher poly, because as you say, it is not showing the underlying geometry from the subsurface modifier. I don’t think you can see the geometry until you apply the modifier.
