About the Smooth Brush: Blender Sculpting

There is something I noticed while sculpting. I haven’t heard it stated like this or mentioned in any video here or on youtube. Perhaps it could come in handy for someone as it did me.

While sculpting, use the smooth brush less and only after a remesh. The smooth brush will flatten and revert the mass back to its original position. Have you ever noticed while using the smooth brush, the mass moves too far back even though the strength is minimal? What remeshing does, aside from removing the polygonal stretching, is it saves the new volume of the sculpted mesh. After the remesh, the smooth brush will actually smooth the model rather than influence the volume.

Also, if your computer crashes (as mine did) when attempting to increase the resolution for fine details, remesh in small steps rather than doing the final number all at once. For me, the final numbers I use for details are: 0.004 (for large objects) and 0.007 (small objects).

When remembered in these ways, it makes the sculpting process less cumbersome. If I notice anymore concepts like this while sculpting, I’ll share them (preferably with pictures). Thanks for reading.

Very good tips. Thanks for sharing! Takes some trial and error to figure these things out.
